An excellent 19th Century Bronze temple toy originating from Jhansi City, Bundelkhand region, Northern India. This early example was cast using a 4000 year old lost wax process. Cast as a rider holding a club in one hand and the reign in the other sat upon a camel, mounted on a platform and raised on four, six spoke wheels. The Camel is draped with a saddle, rug and four brass bells. The wheels move freely as they should and the original looped pull chain is attached to the front axle. This piece is very decorative but its intended purpose was as a religious gift for Hindu dieties at the temple.

Condition commensurate with age and use. A wonderful aged patina with traces of red paint (applied for cultural and religious purposes). Completely original, no repairs or losses.

Provenance: Formerly part of a collection owned by Irish Author Mr Peter Sommerville-Large.
